XML Extensible Markup Language

September 25, 26, 27 & 28, 2001

There were two great waves that have swept the internet industry. The first was the emergence of the communication protocol called TCP/IP. This first wave has enabled global connectivity. The second wave was enabled by HTML. This HTML has allowed the linkage of multiple documents which has created “huge” and widely distributed electronic libraries. The third wave was enabled by the XML. The power of XML has taken the enterprise applications into an era of true interoperability. XML has garnered tremendous support from the internet community. Additionally, major vendors such as IBM, Microsoft and Sun have embraced this technology. The objective of this course is to learn the foundation of XML’s core elements – XML basics, DTD, XML Schema & Namespaces, XSLT, Xpath, Xlink and Xpointer. The intent is to help students build a solid foundation in XML with its associated core elements. Hopefully, by the end of the course, the students have the ability to move on and learn other parts of XML technologies.
