UNB/ CS/ David Bremner/ teaching/ cs2613/ CS2613 Virtual Machine

We will be using VirtualBox to run a Virtual Machine with all the software we need for CS2613.

Starting the VM

Depending on the speed of the host computer, it should take about 30s for the VM to boot completely.

From the FCS Linux GUI

Applications -> FCS VMs -> CS2613 Dev VM

From the command line

From the command line (e.g. if logged in via ssh), you can run

$ fcs-cs2613-dev-vm

Note that this will require a pretty fast network connection to be usable. Also note that out of courtesy you should try to avoid running your VM on machines that other students are using.

Storage in the VM

Using Gnome

Shutting Down the VM

You can shut down the VM by one of the following options:

Since the disk is immutable, you don't have to worry to much about damaging the VM, but you will have to make sure your work is saved outside the VM.

Note that you will still have to log out of your FCS Linux session. You can also try logging directly out of your FCS Linux session while the VM is still running, but it will nag you to shutdown the VM first.
