Hints for online quizzes

• It takes about 15s (or more) for the quizzes to load. It seems stuck for the last 10s, but be patient.

• There is an exercise to help you learn the syntax (mostly based on LaTeX)

• In particular you need

  • '_' for subscripts: type x_i for "xⁱ"
  • '^' for superscripts: type x^2 for "x²"
  • '*' for multiplication: type a*b for "a × b"
  • 'epsilon' to enter 'ε'

• Note that i, e, and pi are reserved and correspond to the usual mathematical constants. We will use some other letter for loop indices. Some other notation will be provided for expectation, if you need it.

• The test tries to prevent you from messing up with browser navigation, but the short version is you should only use in-page navigation between questions. If you are asked this page is asking you to confirm that you want to leave - data you have entered may not be saved, pay attention. You probably want Stay on Page.

• I recommend that you use paper and pen/pencil to work out your solutions; this will help you enter your answers quickly in case you have to restart (although be aware numbers may change).

• If the system cannot parse your answer when you click submit, the box will be reddish with a dashed border. You can click the box for more information. Until you click End Exam, you can change your entry and re-submit.
